Thanks for your post, Bob. Zig was the very first author to feed my mind in business…. and it is so nice to be connected and inspired by Tom as well.
Filling my mind with something postitive is the first thing I do every morning. Before I pour my coffee (and I know you understand how important coffee is!), I turn on my blackberry and read a few daily emails I receive. The first is usually Abraham-Ester Hicks, the second John Maxwell’s Minute with Maxwell. And then of course I go to my computer to check email and fb and will usually find a blog from you or one of my other favorite Go-Giver’s. This continues to prime the pump!
One of the very best benefits of social media is that it can feed our mind with positive information! Especially when we are connected to people like you and Tom Ziglar!
Thanks again.
I used to watch the news but lately it has been too negative. So I go to great blogs such as yours Bob, listen to some motivational videos and I have to have my morning 80’s music! These three things alone feed my mind and get me going in the right direction! Ahh the 80’s such a wonderful time to be alive!
I find reading your blog posts and FB comments is a good start, Bob. Reading books and articles that challenge my thinking. Just began Sally Hogshead book, “Facsinate.” Of course, new knowledge only becomes wisdom with time, testing and applied action.
Love this! Adding this to my quote journal, which has a growing collection of the Ziglar wisdom. I have that visual of Zig enthusiastically priming the pump– what a great way to start the day. 🙂
Thank you,Bob, for such a great morning thought! To fill up your mind with great thoughts, first you need to empty the cup: Say-Who am I, what is my purpose, mission in this life? what is important for me? Keep silent for a while-through meditation, or during your daily exercises etc. Cleanse your mind first. Say, OK, I did this and that, and I’m happy so far (or not?). So, what changes should be done? Where should I aim now? Then do your best, dig deeply to find the best books, thoughts, mentor, job etc. to fill up the gap, to make youself feel happy, satisfied, welcomed by others, to be of service to others. Once you start the process, nothing can hold you back from linking to people, wisdom, true meaning of life.
Alan: Thank you. I appreciate your kind compliment about the blog. Great idea to read Sally’s book, “Fascinate.” One of the best books I’ve ever read. She’s amazing. “Fascinating” actually! 😉
Through the wisdom of ages stored in some incredible books, observing the leaders and coaches who spread the wisdom freely (like yourself, Bob) and by the means of positive self-talk.
To add the power to the process, the power of association. I personally keep myself surrounded with people with positive mental attitude and avoid contact (as much as possible) with negative forces. Just a few ways I thought are helpful to priming the pump mechanism 🙂
Thank you for this wonderful topic, Bob. Have a wonderful day!
I read The Go-Giver a couple years ago now and it really helped reinforce the idea that a small group of mutual-success-minded individuals could help one another become more successful and fulfilled. Your ‘environment’, the people and information with whom and with which you surround yourself does Influence you for the better or for the worse.
I’ve had some pretty negative (fearful and resentful) people in my life. During the past couple years, I started becoming more aware of how much ‘garbage’ was getting through to me, even though I personally am a very positive person. To remedy this, I began to systematically and purposefully distance myself from some of the more negative people in my life and replacing them with fellow Go-Givers :). Years ago, B.C. (before computers, lol) we used to have a very limited number of people we could meet in our lifetime, but now the internet makes it easier than ever for us to find and connect with those like-minded positive individuals.
My ‘environment’ is now so different, ‘feeding’ me with positivity and possibility. I choose to give to add value to the lives of more Go-Givery 😉 individuals because I know they will use that value to reach out to help others.
That´s a different way to see things we can move for ourselves!! I like it most ´cuz we eat at least 3 times per day and are familiar with the “process” of buying and preparing our food the way we feel what to eat – so this advice makes a lot of sense and should reach everybody! Thanks a lot, i wish you a great menu!
Karen: Thank you for the feedback and excellent addition to your quote journal. And, yes, isn’t that awesome and inspiring vision of Zig “priming the pump.”
Mary: Thanks. How terrific. Thank you for sharing that with us! And, I agree that Tom is definitely carrying the torch that Zig so wonderfully lit!
Robert: Great feedback. And, definitely a good choice to get rid of the “news” (quotation marks intended) and choose what you’d like to prime the pump of your enthusiastic mind. I’m honored to be a part of that. Regarding the 80’s, I think there was even a show on VH1 entitled, “I love the 80’s.” 🙂
Kumar: Wow – awesome teaching, my friend. Great ideas. And, thank you for including me in that. Very appreciated!
Greg: That’s really terrific. I love how you made a decision to create a more benevolent environment in which you could thrive. Sounds like both a lot of thought, and a lot of work, went into it, and you are realizing the benefits. Way to go!
Rita: Thank you. Great way to put it. Great menu to you, as well! 🙂
Hey Bob,
Priming is critical and it needs to be done daily. Here’s how I do it: I’ve built a PowerPoint file that serves as a morning meditition (based largely on Dr. Kerry Spackman work coaching F1 drivers). It contains spiritual cues, a mind map, goals, heroes and mentors and a couple of poems. It takes about 30 minutes to get through each morning, but I start every day knowing who I am, where I’m going and who I owe for my success.
Hey Bob, thanks for sharing this! Anything Ziglar, I enjoy watching or listening to. The message I got from Zig when he said you have to “prime the pump” is that starting anything takes hard work but consistent and persistent focus will make the water flow, then once the water (benefits of your goal) starts flowing, it flows with ease. Never give up!
Frankie: Indeed, one of Zig’s many powerfully profound lessons and certainly one of my favorites (though, like you, it’s difficult for “anything Ziglar” to not be a favorite of mine) 🙂 Thank you so much for sharing with us, and I love the lesson you took from his teaching!

How funny, I just tweeted something similar yesterday:
Feed your mind with examples of people who did the incredible. Here’s my youtube playlist: ow.ly/hPbpZ #possibilitythinking

I prime the pump by reading quality blogs and books. There’s also the uplifting audio programs and music I listen to.
