Interview Description

Shifting your focus from “getting to giving” is not only a nice and spiritual way to live life…but a very financially profitable way, as well.

When Bob Burg, coauthor of the international bestseller, The Go-Giver, speaks about “giving,” he’s talking in terms of “constantly and consistently providing value to the lives of others.” When you can take your focus off yourself and shift it onto how you can be an asset of value to other people, you’ll plant seeds of goodwill — of great will — that will come back to you many, many times over. And, no, NOT because of some magical, mystical type of thinking, but for very practical reasons.

However, one might wonder: “Isn’t that kind of naive?” “Isn’t that just feel-goody, new-agey stuff that doesn’t work in the real-world?” Or, even, “Sure, maybe when the economy is good, but now we have to fight for everything we get. So, isn’t this simply bad advice?”

Actually, not only is it not naive, it’s quite practical. And, again…for very concrete reasons that you’ll learn, benefit from, and most likely utilize for the rest of your life.

As Bob says, “You cannot control the economy…but you can absolutely control your economy.”

But that’s not even the biggest point. Life today (and the media that communicates so much of it) forever asks us to choose between being spiritual and being successful in the “worldly sense.” But, not only is there nothing particularly spiritual about being poor (it’s certainly a lot harder to donate money to charity in that position), there’s no need for it.

Burg calls this, “The Treacherous Dichotomy” or “The False Dilemma” — the unnecessary use of the word, “Or” (i.e., “Do you want to be wealthy OR happy?” or “Are you spiritual OR are you successful?” … how about, “YES!” to both!).

Bob has built his business, and shows others how to build theirs, based on one overriding, foundational principle:

“All things being equal, people will do business with, and refer business to, those people they know, like and trust.”

Bring Bob onto your show and enjoy this entertaining and humorous, but very to-the-point speaker who will add exceptional value to your show and to your listeners. He is a committed defender of the free market, loves mixing spirituality and business and, while not of the Christian Faith (he is a proud member of the Jewish Faith), his passion is explaining why the best way to achieve both personal and business success is to live in a way that honors our Creator.

Suggested Interview Questions

For Long Interviews

  • Your title, The Go-Giver seems to contradict traditional wisdom. Is that intentional? What is the basic premise of your book?
  • Isn’t this really just saying, “Nice guys/gals finish first?” And while that’s a nice idea isn’t that perhaps a little bit naïve?
  • In the book, the main character, Joe, is frustrated, and described as a Go-Getter. I always thought being a go-getter was a good thing. Are you saying that being a Go-Getter is a bad thing?
  • Each of the principles in this story tie directly into spirituality, free enterprise and free markets. Yet, you don’t come right out and say that. Why not?
  • Okay, so let’s look at these principles, what the book calls, The Five Laws of Stratospheric Success. Law #1 is the Law of Value. What is that? The other laws we can discuss are:
    #2: The Law of Compensation
    #3: The Law of Influence
    #4: The Law of Authenticity
    #5: The Law of Receptivity
  • How can defenders of the free market explain our points in such a way that we both don’t offend progressives AND are actually able to persuade them to our side of the issue?
  • Regarding the concept of “Character” you tell a great story about a banker who would not participate in the real estate and banking scandal. Why wouldn’t he, and how does that actually make the point that the scandal, melt-down had nothing to do with free-markets?
  • In your teachings, you really break some paradigms about sales. What are some of them?
  • Would you say that you downplay selling skills and techniques? Companies invest countless amounts of money in teaching their salespeople all the skills. Are you saying these are not important?
  • One interesting — but somewhat questionable — thing you say in the book is that “you can’t make a sale.” What do you mean by that? Sales are made every day.
  • Do people ever confuse what being a “Go-Giver” really means?
  • One term you talk about is kind of a strange one — a “MacGuffin.” What is that?
  • The Law of Left Field. That’s kind of a fascinating concept. Could you tell us about that?
  • How can our listeners learn more about where to find your books?

For Brief Interviews

  • Your title, The Go-Giver seems to contradict traditional wisdom. Is that intentional? What is the basic premise of your book?
  • I always thought being a Go-GETTER was the way to go. Are you now saying this is NOT so? We shouldn’t be Go-Getters?
  • Isn’t this really just saying, “Nice guys/gals finish first?” And while that’s a nice idea isn’t that perhaps a little bit naïve?
  • Each of the principles in this story tie directly into spirituality and Capitalism. Yet, you don’t come right out and say that. Why not?
  • Bob, you have Five Laws where you promise that — if people will only follow them — they MUST be successful regardless of the economic climate. What are they? And, how can you so confidently assure people that by following them it’ll result in success?
  • I’d imagine that people often mistake what a “Go-Giver” really is. How do people confuse this?
  • How can our listeners learn more about where to find your book?
