In discussing “Excellence,” we saw that it is two-fold: the competence you bring to the table as well as how you make people feel about themselves.
However, the second “Element of Value” is what makes it stick, and that is “Consistency.”
Key Point: To communicate excellence *consistently* — day after day, week after week, month after month, and year after year — inspires trust in a way that practically nothing else possibly can.
As human beings we desire to be consistent ourselves. But, we *demand* it of those we follow, buy from, or deal with (at least in any significant way) both personally and professionally.
To be inconsistent, then, is to risk all the goodwill built through excellence, falling apart like a stale cookie crashing to pieces when dropped on the floor.
On the other hand, hold your consistency as a sacred value, and the level of trust you inspire in others will be practically unbreakable.
A Powerful Duo: Yes, when you combine excellence and consistency, you communicate exceptional value!
Exercise: With your team, discuss how you would rate yourself and your organization in terms of consistency on a scale of 1-10. Do you feel that consistency is a strength of yours and of everyone on your team?
If your rating is anything less than an 8, 9, or 10, perhaps it would be worth exploring a bit deeper.
