Last post we looked at Excellence, one of the five “Elements of Value” within The Law of Value in John David Mann’s and my book, Go-Givers Sell More.
We discussed the competence aspect of excellence, though there’s another aspect that’s just as important.
Key Point: Excellence is truly about how you make other people feel about themselves at every single touch point…the initial contact, the relationship-building process, every phone call, email, and text exchange, the follow-up/follow-through, the sales process, the referral process, etc.
This also holds for your suppliers and every single person in your organization — really, everyone with whom you interact…ever!
As the great Tom Peters says in his magnificent book, The Excellence Dividend: “Excellence is the … next chance meeting in the hall, the next phone call … the next ten-line e-mail or two-line instant message. Excellence is a moment-to-moment way of life. Or it is nothing at all.”
And what he says next holds true (in my opinion) in every single context of life, and that is:
“Excellence is the next five minutes.”
WOW!
This is your level of excellence — and the level of excellence you communicate.
Exercise: Like last post, consider how you rate yourself regarding the above form of excellence.
