The more one allows their emotions to *control* and *determine* their actions, the less room there is for logic and reason to be involved…which means that it’s less likely that the most correct decision will be made and the most desired results will come to fruition.
That’s not to suggest one should deny or forego their emotions. Not one bit.
Emotions are important. Not only do they bring us great joy, they also have wisdom to offer.
Key Point: Just make sure that you are in control of your emotions as opposed to your emotions being in control of you.
Or, as the legendary Dondi Scumaci says, “Take your emotions along for the ride…but make sure YOU are driving the car.”
Suggestion: Consult your emotions, but make sure your logical mind is in the driver’s seat and is the primary decision-maker.
This is crucial because it runs contrary to our emotionally-driven human nature.
The Benefit: Those who can form this habit and act upon it consistently are typically the most happy with their decisions and are the most successful, both personally and professionally.
Exercise: Make it a point to become totally conscious of whenever your emotions are beginning to control you and your actions. Assure yourself that *you* (the logical part of you) are actually in control, and act accordingly. Then take great pleasure in having done so. What a fantastic step you have taken! This entire process will gradually become more natural.
