The person who depends on intimidation and/or manipulation to get their way can have employees…but not a team.
They can have customers…but none who are loyal and sing their praises to others.
They can have friends and family they love…but not relationships that are genuinely happy, functional, and fulfilling.
Key Point: Pushing your will onto others is rarely very productive and is simply not sustainable.
After all, how far can one push a rope? Not very far — at least not very fast or effectively. Trying to push a rope is far less effective than gently pulling and guiding it (not to mention, much more sustainable in terms of results).
Exercise: Focus on positive and effective ways to inspire employees, serve customers, and communicate with friends and family.
As you discover and focus on *their* needs, wants, and desires, notice if it seems that they feel a deeper “pull” toward you.
