In my leadership journey, I still find myself making mistakes. Fortunately, I also find myself catching more and more of those mistakes *before* I actually make them.
So, while still not where I need to be…I’m making progress. 🙂
Key Point: Once we make a mistake and then acknowledge it, we are in a good position to mentally prepare for the next time an “opportunity” to make the same mistake might occur (and it probably will).
This allows us to catch ourselves first. It also allows us to interrupt that previous pattern and choose a different and more productive and beneficial action.
Good News: We can also learn from the mistakes we see other leaders make and mentally prepare ourselves for when that or a similar situation presents itself to us, as well.
Good leaders make mistakes. But they learn from them, they grow from them, and they make better choices the next time they have the opportunity to do so.
Exercise: Think about mistakes you have seen other leaders make that you can learn from without having to make them yourself. Can you prepare in advance and be ready for a similar situation in the event that it or something similar to it occurs in your journey?
