When it comes to business there’s lots of noise out there. And we know that, if we’re going to get through to those we want as our customers and clients, we have to cut through that noise. One thing that can help is a strong, powerful and easily-identifiable brand.
But, here’s the challenge: our brand is not necessarily what we think it is, but what others think it is.
If that sounds as though there’s nothing you can do to shape what they think your brand is…not so fast! There’s plenty you can do. It’s both an art and a science, and some people are really, really good at it.
One such person is Libby Gill. The former head of PR & Communications for Universal, Sony & Turner Broadcasting — and the branding brain behind the launch of the Dr. Phil Show — Libby knows that while business is built on capturing the market share, that comes only after capturing the mindshare.
In this chat, based on wisdom from her great new book, CAPTURE the MINDSHARE and the MARKET SHARE WILL FOLLOW: The Art and Science of Building Brands Libby will show us why it’s still the relationship that matters, the importance of utilizing your brand in a shifting marketplace and the branding power of collaboration.
Oh, and why more people are still obsessed with Marilyn Monroe rather than with her equals in beauty and stardom from the same period.
Enjoy the chat.
Wow, Libby shared some terrific information with us in this call, didn’t she? Could you relate to the mall developer who had to adjust his strategy after seeing business drop as a result of the Internet? His effective re-branding made all the difference. What about the successful collaboration efforts regarding the hospital? What ideas did Libby spur in you? So many questions…so little time. 😉 Thank you for joining us! And, be sure to pick up Libby’s book.

Branding in how to get the core accross is tricky. Most companies hire branding experts, I for one can’t afford that on an affiliates return………….
Adelinde: That is one reason why Libby’s book could be such a great investment for you. Actually, in your note I saw two reasons. 🙂
I was having a very frustrating week and I thought I possibly cannot end the week on a bad note. Than I got this email!! As always thank you Bob and Libby!! Learned alot from this podcast. Great job and thank you Bob for having me end the week on a good note 🙂

Libby really captures the essence of branding and communicates it in her very effective and relatable style. The entire interview was both pleasant and packed with insights, humor and what is very clearly a fond mutual respect between two professionals. Well done.
Bill: Thank you for your kind feedback on the interview. Very appreciated; especially in that you are a branding authority. I greatly enjoyed the article you wrote about Libby (and a different side of her than most of us are used to seeing) as part of your “Friday’s Fearless Brand” segment. http://bit.ly/1cVg4JG
