From hit songs (remember ch-ch-ch-ch-Changes by David Bowie) to business parables about mice and cheese, penguins and icebergs, the topic of change is often raised. And, for good reason. Individuals and companies refusing to change not only don’t grow, they tend to go backwards.
Yet, as important as it is, one thing that doesn’t seem to change is people’s general resistance to it.
Why do those we lead resist change and how can we work within this tendency to help facilitate it? And, why do we do the same?
One of the leading authorities in this field is Randy Pennington. In his excellent new book, MAKE CHANGE WORK: Staying Nimble, Relevant, and Engaged in a World of Constant Change, he does a terrific job of answering these questions.
In this chat we’ll discuss the above, and discover why the difference might be as simple as being like the extinct Dodo or the thriving Coyote.
Enjoy!
As I read Randy’s book and listened to him during our conversation, I kept seeing myself in his answers. Sometimes (okay, usually) more as the dodo than the coyote.
Where did you see yourself? What thoughts from Randy can you embrace and begin to apply right now? And, while we’re at it, please feel free to share some of your personal and professional successes in terms of change.

Read his book and loved it. Randy has a solid perception on change management. We model some of our businesses in the same regards. And he is right the speed of change is getting faster and faster every year. Being able to change in this “ever changing” environment is critical in ANY businesses survival. Great reference to the 9-11 event as well Bob. Great job!!
Marty: Thank you for everything you said. I appreciate your very kind feedback. And, Randy is indeed a great guy and terrific teacher! So glad you enjoy the interviews.
Robert: Thank you. Yes, his book is terrific, isn’t it? And, indeed, it’s getting faster, whether we want it to or not. Randy provided valuable lessons on dealing with “what is.” Thanks again for your feedback!

WOW – GREAT interview Bob!!!! You are a master in picking MY FAVORITE TOPICS – LOL Thank’s ♥ GREAT topic!!!! Because wether we want it or not CHANGE will happen. And we can BE ALL INN to HELP IT HAPPEN or we can sit back and LET IT HAPPEN – I know witch one I prefer!!!! This part with a common goal that all participants will move the world to GO FOR – LOVE it – then LISTEN and be in the NOW is the best we can do!!!! NOW is the only time we got, and hanging on to old patterns, because we do not want to change, never works for the better and for reaching the goal – but being in the NOW DOES – Thank’s To you Randy too!!!!!!!!!!! LOVE your viewpoints.
LOVE from Denmark ♥

Hi Bob
Change would depend what one evolves into, the speed of change & purpose of change.
The reference to Dodo is a hoot 🙂 my preference is Dinosaurus Rex.com
People hanker for the past & continuums, after all, why the interest in excavating the past ?
Whatever works in the circumstances of the times is good !!
Great Interview Bob… I Love the topic of Change. And I actually LOVE Change for without Change we don’t evolve. Brilliant Interview as well as Randy Pennington
Lene: Thank you. As always, you have a way of making people feel so good by your comments. And in your case, I don’t think that will EVER change! 🙂
Carly: Thank you. Doesn’t surprise me that you embrace change. That’s why you are leading the field.
TRUE Bob – That one I CAN’T HELP!!!!! I LOVE acknowledging good and help others to success!!!! That is MY “do it no matter if I get paid or not” thing – Thank’s for recognizing that Bob!!!!! LOVE to you 😀
