First published in 1937, during the Great Depression, it’s the book that a large number of hugely-successful people credit with helping them rise to that status.
I hope that Napoleon Hill’s classic, Think And Grow Rich is in a very visible place in your personal library, highlighted, underlined, well-notated and dog-eared. I also hope that you’ve read it numerous times and that you continue to do so. It’s principles are timeless and its lessons are invaluable.
A very well-known authority on both Napoleon Hill and Think And Grow Rich is my friend, Tony Rubleski, a marketing maven known best as the author of the Mind Capture series of books. In conjunction with the Napoleon Hill Foundation, he is also the host and creator of the upcoming, historic event, “Think and Grow Rich Summit 2013.”
In this chat, Tony and I discuss several things, including what we each believe were the two all-encompassing big ideas (of many) that weaved its way throughout the fabric of the book. We’ll then look at the biggest detriment to individual success.
And, we’ll discuss the book Hill wrote in 1938 as a follow-up to Think And Grow Rich, but never published…until more than 70 years later.
Entitled, “Outwitting the Devil” the book ranks right up there with its predecessor. But, the back story regarding why it was kept unpublished for so long is both heart-breaking and enlightening. Tony will explain.
Enjoy our chat!
Can you imagine the conversations that took place between Napoleon Hill and Mrs. Hill, and eventually the relatives about whether or not to allow Outwitting the Devil to be published? One can only imagine how much not publishing it tore at Dr. Hill’s heart, knowing that he had information that would keep so many people from succumbing to what I referred to in our discussion as “The ‘D’ Word” (and, no, the D does not stand for devil) Turns out, it’s much worse. 🙂
* Be sure and check out the information for the event, including a complete list of those who will be presenting. I have a feeling this is going to be a fantastic three days!

Hi Bob,
Thanks for yet another valuable interview!
Beth
Hi Bob!
Loved this interview (as usual) about this very special book!
As you both talked about your own beliefs about the meaning of Napoleon Hill’s laws, I remembered that the most common meaning that people give to the word Rich is Money.
I believe that being rich is not ALL about money. In a Go-Giver way, money is the direct result of how well you enrich other people’s lives!
For me, being rich is not about how much you own but about how much you need to be fulfilled.
I’m looking forward to see what others think not only about this but about other concepts within this life changing book!
Thank you Bob Burg & Tony Rubleski for a great conversation. It is amazing how this stuff never gets old (truth be told: over 5000 years old RIGHT?).
I’m going to look you up on FB Tony.
Bob. Hope to see you in Dayton, Ohio this year.
Best Regards,
Steve
I learned a great deal of how my mind retains thoughts and feelings that dictate my daily activities, emotions, and will. Go-Giver has reaffirmed what I always thought would help “renew my mind”. There were many famous quotes from various people who spoke about the path and knew it worked. I am on the road to the path less taken, and I am in no hurry to get there first!

Bob,
Thanks or the excellent content and interviews. One suggestion – please check your audio levels because when your voice is at normal volume levels, the guest is extremely hard to hear, and when I turn up the volume, your voice is then extremely loud. I don’t mnd adjusting the volume back and forth, but it can be an area of improvement that will make these interviews even better.
All the best to you,
Bob
Bruno: Thank you for your kind words about the interview.Regarding the word, “Rich”, indeed, while in the context of the book it is used in the monetary sense of the word, the principles he teaches will help one become “rich” in all areas of their lives, including financially, physically, spiritually, mentally, emotionally, relationally, or in other ways. Regarding your third paragraph, I appreciate what you said, but I don’t think that takes away from what Mr. Hill was teaching. In other words, I’m not seeing the dichotomy that is implied by your statement. He WAS teaching how to provide more value to the marketplace, which results in making more money. Following his teachings would certainly help someone to do that. The principles of The Go-Giver totally tie into Mr. Hill’s teachings. Thank you for sharing with us, my friend!
Steve: Thank you for your kind comment. Yes, I hope we can get a program put together in Dayton this year. If so, I’ll look forward to seeing you there!
Melissa: Thank you for your very kind compliment. I’m proud of you for being on the path. As Earl Nightingale said, “Success is the progressive realization of a worthwhile dream or goal” (Also quoted as, “Success is the progressive realization of a worthy idea.”). Looks like you are on your way!
Beth: Thank you, my friend. I appreciate you greatly and always!
Bob: Thank you for your feedback and suggestion. We have been working on this and are in the process of switching recording companies. Hopefully, the sound quality and volume equality will be much improved in future recordings.
P.S: With my third paragraph I was arguing that one could own many things and still feel miserable. While others with much less feel like the richest people on Earth.
It’s about our ability to appreciate what we’re experiencing right now.
At another level, this also happens because achievement (getting what you want) doesn’t necessarily lead to fulfillment (living a meaningful life).
But you’re right, this is on the borderline of the topic and I apologize for that Bob.
Bruno: When I referenced your third paragraph, it was that you wrote two sentences; and wrote them in such a way that seemed to imply a conflict or dichotomy between them. Actually, I felt the two sentences had nothing to do with one another. They were two separate thoughts. No sweat, though. And, I might have just misinterpreted.
Bob,
Oh my gosh! My “in real life” and my “virtual life” have intersected! Tony and I are both from the greater Grand Rapids area. We met many years ago through a Chamber event and over the years, I’ve enjoyed Tony’s high-energy take on the world.
How fun to see the two of you connected and I will definitely need to check out the Think and Grow Rich 2013 event.
Jennifer: Too funny! Yes, I’ve known Tony for years. Actually met him for the first time a few months ago at a speaking event, and looking forward to the upcoming Thank And Grow Rich Summit 2013. Hope to see you there, as well, if it works into your schedule. I’ve also met some terrific people from Grand Rapids over the years. Great folks!
Hi Bob,
Excellent interview and I was glad to have read Outwitting the Devil… As I listen to this audio, I pulled down one of my copies of Hill’s Think and Grow Rich. This one happens to be part of the original batch of the 1937 1st Edition run of 5,000 copies published in March… The first copy I read was a Fawcett paperback decades ago and like you, it is barely there.
I love Hill’s work and have all of his books… Yes, persistence is important and getting past distractions. Whew, so much and yet so simple. Yet, people tend to get in their own way towards that worthy goal. Thanks for sharing this interview…

Signed up for Tony’s e-mail! Thank’s Bob 🙂
Awesome, Lene. I know you’ll enjoy Tony’s wisdom. He’s a great guy, too!
Bob,
Once again on the mark! You and Tony Rubleski gave me new and valuable information. I will read the book ASAP!
Thank you for your commitment to our success.
Marty
Terrific, Marty. Enjoy!
Bob Choat: I apologize, I just saw your comment. For some reason I had not seen it earlier so did not respond. Thank you. How cool to have one of the original versions of TAGR. A definite collector’s item. And, so very much agree with you regarding persistence and getting past distraction. Both are so key!
Missed that one when it first came out as I was away, but great content is timeless, so just listened to it now 😉
Thanks Bob, I’ve enjoyed your interview with Tony; I’ve found it very insightful; Mr Hill was such a pioneer!!!
Off I go, being a non drifter, and going at it!!!
Frederique: So glad you enjoyed the interview! And, you are definitely a NON-drifter!! 🙂
