After completing a quick purchase or other business transaction with someone, instead of just saying “thank you”, let them know you appreciate them.
A genuine smile and a quick, “I appreciate you” or “I appreciate ya'” works just fine. It’s that little extra special touch that separates you from everyone else – even the polite people who say thank you – and makes you memorable in his or her mind.
You become that person they’ll go out of their way to please during the next transaction. Do this just a couple of times; note the surprised and delighted expressions on their faces. It becomes habit-forming.
By the way, thank you for taking the time to read this…I appreciate ya’! :-).

I apreciate you and I appreciate your daily blogs! 😉 thank you Bob and thank you blogs.
I always say “thank you”. But I’m going to change it up a bit and say “I appreciate you”.
Bob,
When you signed one of your first emails to me with that line, it made me pause. And smile. And think to myself, “Dang, this guy is COOL.” No lie. I feel so blessed to count you as a friend.
Thank you. Appreciate ya back!!!
Enjoy your day. 🙂
I spent 20+ years in the Hospitality Industry and used to use this all the time with employees and guests! It was truely amazing how all would jump hoops to please me back! That felt Great on both ends. Your words are always right on and timeless…Thanks so much for reminding me! And I Appreciate Ya…back atcha!
A very timely and important blog post, Bob.
If we all took just a little more time and effort to tell everyone we come in contact how much we appreciate them, the world would be a much better place.
It also pays immense dividends from a business perspective, as my colleagues point out in their book “Appreciation Marketing”.
I appreciate you!
The words “I appreciate it”, when tagged onto the end of a thank you, make a big difference.
“Thanks for taking the extra time for me, I appreciate it.”
“I really appreciate the care you’ve taken with this, thank you so much.”
Magic words! So true!
Thanks Bob, this is powerful – I will definitely start doing this!
Cynthia, I have to point out: there’s a world of difference betwen “Thank you, I appreciate it” and “Thank you, I appreciate you”.
The impact of the first one is limited to the transaction at hand while with the second one you appreciate the PERSON, which is orders of magnitude more meaningful to them.
Thank you, everyone, for your kind and wisdom-filled feedback. As I hope you know……I appreciate ya’! (or is that, “I appreciate y’all!”) 😉
And Bob, you can take it a step further. I used to live in Atlanta (I’m originally from NY)…where I learned that there’s a difference between “y’all”, and “all y’all”. You can say, “I appreciate all y’all!”
: )
Bob,
I really do appreciate you and all that you do, how many do you sleep? 2 or 3? Keep it up, amazing what words can do…
Love it! I will use this at my Open House today! Thanks, I appreciate you and your suggestions 😉
This is so juicy. I’ll simply say: Eres increible. Gracias mil. 🙂 <3
